The publisher and a theater collaborated in publishing the poster prior to the staging of a Kabuki play to boost the advertising effect. The play, "Kami no Megumi Wago no Torikumi" (commonly called "Megumi no Kenka" or "The Megumi Feud") was to start on March 2, 1890 at the Kiriza theater in Yotsuya, Tokyo, starring Onoe Kikugoro V.
